1 cup water
2 cups raisins
1 cup shortening
1 3/4 cups sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 tsp. vanilla ext.
3 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
Pinch of salt
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Combine raisins and water in a small saucepan; bring to a boil. Cook for 3 minutes; remove from the heat and let cool (do not drain).
In a mixing bowl, cream shortening; gradually add sugar. Add eggs and vanilla.
Combine dry ingredients; gradually add to creamed mixture and blend thoroughly. Stir in nuts and raisins.
Drop by teaspoonfuls 2 in. Apart on greased baking sheets.
Bake at 350'F for 12-14 minutes.
Yield: about 6 dozen.
